Ever since Darwin showed that all organisms are linked by descent in a Great Tree of Life, taxonomists have sought to reconstruct the tree and translate it into taxonomy. In this discussion, Dr. Hibbett will present a brief history of “tree-thinking” in mycology and the challenges it poses for taxonomy.
