Kris Holstrom

Kris Holstrom is the owner of Tomten Farm, a high altitude, off-grid, permaculture based research, demonstration and education farm at 9000’ near Telluride, Colorado. She consults on permaculture designs, edible and medicinal landscaping, school and community gardens through her business, Productive Properties. Kris has a BS in Forest Management from Utah State University and an MS in Horticulture from Virginia Tech and for 7 years was the regional Sustainability Coordinator in San Miguel County. She is a certified Permaculture Designer, Permaculture instructor and became a mycophile through the Telluride Mushroom Festival. She’s participated in several Fungi Perfecti trainings with Paul Stamets and has a tiny mushroom grow room within her main greenhouse. She co-founded and is Board President for SWIRL – the Southwest Institute for Resilience – a non-profit that helps support community gardens, greenhouses and the Telluride Farmers Market. Kris has spent nearly three decades educating the public and youth about sustainability issues including renewable energy, food security, waste reduction and “out of the box” systems thinking to contribute to regional solutions to current challenges
